Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid rod that pivots around a point. When you apply a force at the end of the lever it tends to rotate the fulcrum to the direction of the force. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move things that would normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The mechanical advantage increases when the lever is extended. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum until the point at which you're applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and where you will end the lever.
Levers can have different effects based on how forces are applied. For instance the class 2 lever is inclined to turn in the opposite direction to when the force applied to it (like a totter-totter). The forces created by pushing the handle of a front door can produce rotational effects that are similar to those.
However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you apply by changing a small amount of effort applied over a long distance into a larger amount of force applied over a shorter distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move massive quantities of cargo. This is also the reason behind the levers you find in a variety of everyday tools such as crowbars, fishing rods claws for hammers and even your legs when you sit on the hand brakes of your car.

This type handle is also used in interior doors like bedrooms, where you may need to restrict access from the outside.
